Audio comments

On a job site, typing a comment is often the slowest thing you do all day. Dictating takes seconds, with gloves on, in the rain, with one hand busy.

  • One audio comment per viewpoint. The add button is disabled once there is one. Delete the existing one to replace it.
  • Five minutes maximum.
  1. Open a viewpoint, then tap Record.
  2. Allow microphone access if Android asks.
  3. Speak, then tap Stop.
  4. Tap Save audio to keep it, or Cancel to discard it.

If you declined microphone access, the app invites you to allow it in PhotoReport’s Android settings and try again.

Add audio lets you choose a file already on the phone. The .m4a format is recommended, as it plays everywhere, including on iOS.

A file that cannot be read, or runs over five minutes, is refused with the reason.

The built-in player offers play, pause and a progress bar, below the viewpoint’s media gallery.

Delete this audio comment asks for confirmation.

  • In the HTML report and the online shared report, a player lets people listen.
  • In the ZIP archive, the audio file is included as is.
  • In the PDF, a line notes its presence with a microphone icon and the duration, without being able to play it.

If an observation absolutely must be readable in the PDF, back the audio up with a written comment. The web dashboard is the comfortable place to do that when you get back.

Recording works without a network and goes out when you reconnect.
