Annotations

An annotation, called a viewpoint in the interface, is a numbered marker placed on a plan. It is the container for everything else: the comment, the photos, the videos and the audio comment.

Creating a viewpoint

1. Put the plan in Visit mode.
2. Click the plan where you want it. The viewpoint is created and its panel opens.
3. Drag around the marker to give it a viewing direction, if that is useful.
4. Type the comment, add your media, then click Save.

You can also start from the + button (Add viewpoint) in the plan toolbar:

• In Visit or Catchup mode, it shows a reminder of the gesture: click the plan where the viewpoint belongs.
• In Readonly mode, it first asks which mode you want: Visit (click the plan to create a viewpoint) or Catchup (click the plan, then pick photos you already took). The plan switches to that mode, ready for your click.

Numbers are assigned automatically in creation order. To flatten them out again, see Reorder annotation numbers in the plan settings.

A viewpoint does not always need a plan. For photos that stand on their own, see Observations.

The detail panel

Clicking a marker opens its panel on the side. It contains:

• The number and the colour of the viewpoint.
• The author and the creation date, plus whoever last modified it.
• The comment, editable directly.
• The viewing direction.
• The media gallery: photos, videos and audio comment.

At the top of the panel, the + button adds media and the ⋮ button holds Delete.

When you click Save on an existing viewpoint, the panel closes and the marker briefly shows a ring on the plan to confirm the change was recorded.

Colour and direction

• Colour: choose from the project’s default colours or its custom colours. Default uses the colour set for the plan or the project.
• Direction: drag around the marker to orient the triangle. No direction removes the triangle and leaves only the circle.

Use colour as a code: one trade per colour, or one urgency level per colour. The viewer’s colour filter and the export’s rely on it.

The viewpoint menu on the plan

Right-click a marker, or press and hold it for about half a second on a touch screen, to open its menu without opening the panel. It works in every mode, Readonly included.

The menu is titled with the viewpoint’s number and shows the start of its comment. It offers:

Comment	Opens a small editor over the plan, just for the comment
Record	Opens the panel and starts an audio recording
Delete	Deletes the viewpoint, after confirmation

Move shows a banner, “Drag viewpoint #N to its new place”. The marker follows your pointer: click where it belongs, then drag around it to aim it again. Orientation shows “Drag to aim viewpoint #N” and only changes the direction. In both cases, Cancel in the banner leaves the marker as it was.

This menu replaces the 2026.9 gesture where pressing and holding a marker started dragging it straight away.

Adding media

From the panel’s + button:

• Add photos: select one or more image files. They all go into this viewpoint.
• Add video: the .mp4 format plays everywhere.
• Add audio or Record: see Audio comments.

Right-click a photo in the panel (or press and hold it on a touch screen) for Rotate, Draw and Delete. See Photos and videos for properties and the full-screen viewer.

Note

The browser does not trigger a camera: you add files already on your computer. Shooting happens from your phone or tablet, and the photo appears here as soon as it syncs.

Deleting a viewpoint

Delete a viewpoint from the panel’s ⋮ menu (Delete this viewpoint, or Delete this viewpoint and all photos when it holds media) or from the marker’s menu. The confirmation says what goes with it, for example “This also deletes 4 photos and 1 audio note.”

Nothing is lost straight away:

• An Undo bar stays on screen for 8 seconds after the delete.
• After that, the viewpoint and its media stay in Project settings > Recently deleted for 7 days, where any member of the project can restore them. A restored viewpoint keeps its original number. See Recently deleted.

Upload tracking

When you add media, each item shows its state: queued, uploading, failed. A failed item offers Retry, and a Retry all button picks up the whole set.

If you try to leave the page while uploads are running, the browser asks for confirmation.
